- Fabio and I love staying at
Way-up. We feel as if we've found a secret
getaway up on the mountain, with all the luxuries of a city spot. We enjoy
the peacefulness and relaxing atmosphere and of course the views. Most times
we can't decide whether to look out to sea or whether to gaze up at the
mountain. We love birds, mountain walking and the beach and there are plenty
of opportunities for these at Way-Up. Simon's Town is such a gem of a town
too. We always seem to find time to visit the eating spots and book shops
and to enjoy the old-town atmosphere when we visit Way-Up. Linda V
- My wife and I immensely enjoyed our stay at
Way-up. The place is well
laid out and clean, just walk out the back garden and you’re on a mountain
trail that yields spectacular vistas of Simon’s Town and False Bay. It’s
convenient to both Cape Town and Cape Point National Park, but best of all
were our friendly and discrete hosts, Denise and Neville. Robert & Jennifer

- What can I say about
Way-up? Let me start by saying it is home from
home. Neville and Denise were our perfect hosts. They welcomed us to a
wonderful little cottage set on the side of Swartkop in their well kept
garden with stunning views out over False Bay. The cottage had everything we
needed, was very comfortable and spotless. We sat on the veranda having
breakfast whilst the Cape Sugar birds flitted around the proteas, listening
and watching the whales blowing in the bay whilst we decided what to do with
our day.
We walked down to the beaches, across the golf course and to the famous
Boulders beach and sat with the penguins before the tourists arrived and had
lunch at a wonderful inexpensive restaurant that Neville recommended.
Afterwards we had a 2 hour sea kayak trip with the penguins and then walked
back to Way Up.
Neville has cut a track directly from the Cottage that leads to the summit
of Swartkop where the views over Simon’s Town and back towards Cape Town are
amazing.
Way Up is close to Cape Point where you can spend days if you choose, like
we did walking through spectacular coastal cliffs and beaches. Way Up has
all the books to guide you and Neville knows them all. Get off the beaten
track you wont be disappointed.
We visited the beautiful winegrowing areas of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek
and drove on to Tulbagh. All of these places you will want to linger but it
depends on how much time you have. Another day trip from Way Up is Hermanus
where at the right time of year you can watch Southern Right Whales only
metres away from the shore or like us you can jump in a boat or a canoe and
get right amongst them. If you are brave enough carry onto Gaansbaai and
dive with Great White Sharks. All of the trips you can do yourself or
arrange in the friendly shops in Simons Town just minutes from Way Up.
Get up early and watch the sun rise from the veranda and drive around the
coast to Scarborough and watch the sunset.
A short drive will also see you at the magnificent Kirstenbosch Botanical
Gardens where we whiled away a wonderful lazy day.
Cape Town itself is an easy drive with SO much to see and do, Table
Mountain, Robben Island, The Waterfront, The District Six museum, I could go
on forever !
There are shops, cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes and a friendly
grocers shop for essentials just minutes away from Way Up
If you want a relaxing, value for money, comfortable and friendly place to
stay Way Up is for you. If you want to be wined and dined and waited on hand
and foot go to the city and pay 10 fold !
We have been to Way Up twice for 5 days each time and never had enough time.
We have recommended Way Up to friends who have also been and loved the
place.
When we are next back in the area, and we will be, Way Up will be on our
list.
